Ben Aston:
Thank you for listening. This is the Digital Project Manager Podcast. I’m Ben Aston. Kelly Suter is joining me today. Kelly, I don’t know if that’s how you pronounce your surname. Is that Kelly Suter?
Kelly Suter
It is. It’s yours.
Ben Aston:
Excellent. We are on top of it today. Kelly, thank you for being on the show.
Kelly Suter
It’s great to be a part of this group.
Ben Aston:
Cool. Today, we’ll be discussing an article Kelly wrote. We’ll call it the Digital Project Manager Developer Dance. This article is about how to get the most out of our development teams.
Kelly, tell us about yourself first. I wanted to ask you a question. When I first looked up you, it stated that you worked for an agency called Irish Titan. I was convinced. I thought that was very interesting. It’s an Irish agency. They call themselves Irish Titan because they are proud to be Irish, because that’s what Irish people do.
But where is Irish Titan, and why are they called Irish Titan.
Kelly Suter
It’s a question that we get all the times. We are an agency located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Our reason for being called Irish Titan is because Darin Lynch, our CEO and founder, is very Irish and proud to be Irish.
He was actually playing basketball one day, and he was trying out names for his agency. He felt like a titan that day, and he thought, “We’re going to be an Irish Titan.” That’s the basic story, and he was quite excited about it. Our logo is a Titan helmet, and the rest is history. We are the titans at Irish Titan, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ben Aston:
Nice.
Kelly Suter
We all claim to be at most a little Irish, but… I am more than half of the Irish population, but that doesn’t matter, I guess.
Ben Aston:
It seems that everyone is affected by it. Particularly on Saint Patrick’s Day. All the Irish are out of the woodwork.
Kelly Suter
Exactly.
Ben Aston:
That’s cool. Tell me, Irish Titan, what you do.
Kelly Suter
Mm-hmm (affirmative). So, at Irish Titan, I am the Director of Project Management. I manage the project management team. We are now a seven-member team and we are growing with the rest. So, yes. As the first digital Project Manager at Irish Titan, I started in 2013. While I don’t directly work on any projects, I am always behind the scenes and watching everything.
Ben Aston:
Are you really in control?
Kelly Suter
Yes, yes.
Ben Aston:
Cool. What kind of projects does Irish Titan undertake?
Kelly Suter
Yes. We build websites, and we also build custom eCommerce and brochure websites. We avoid templates. So we are a Magento partner and work with Shopify.
We are platform-agnostic. We don’t try to fit any client into a particular box. We want to get to know our clients first and then find the right platform for them. Our motto is “Business first, online later.” We first understand the business, then we work with the client to create a digital solution. The website is a brochure-ware custom site.
Ben Aston:
Cool. But which is your favorite? You must have a favorite. Be honest.
Kelly Suter
You’re asking about a platform?
Ben Aston:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Kelly Suter
Drupal would be my favorite. It shouldn’t be. Brochure-ware websites are usually simpler than eCommerce. But, in my opinion, I get a kick out of a CMS and admin interface that is intuitive and helps our clients and the admin users.
